Freerk Wieringa
ExpoIn his sculptures Freerk Wieringa incorporates icons from the low and high culture. Aside form daily references such as cars and American footbal, Wieringa uses academic references such as the base and the traditional function of an image as a monument. How identity is shaped by archetypes, commerce, religion and other extreme factors fascinates Wieringa greatly. The use of steel makes Wieringa’s work, as it stands, a powerful presence. The hardness of the material obliges him to work in a specific matter. A mistake is not easy to recover. This intensive method forces him to make informed choices and so it has a decisive influence on how the work is developed.
